Gulfgate Mall was a shopping mall located in Houston, Texas. It first opened in 1956 as Gulfgate Center, and was later expanded and renovated in the 1960s and 1970s. The mall featured over 100 stores, including anchor stores like JCPenney and Macy's.
Gulfgate Mall was a popular shopping destination for Houston residents for many years, but as retail trends shifted towards larger, more modern malls, Gulfgate began to decline in the 1990s. The mall struggled to attract tenants and customers, and by the early 2000s, many of the stores had closed or moved out.
In 2013, the owners of Gulfgate Mall announced plans to demolish the existing structure and redevelop the site into a mixed-use development called Gulfgate Center. The new development includes retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment options, as well as residential units and office space.
Gulfgate Center continues to be a popular destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment in Houston, and has breathed new life into the site of the former Gulfgate Mall.
